Before: a failing timber wall
Old timbers behind a cracked concrete face had rotted through, leaving the slope loose and the yard edge unsafe.

This Seattle backyard sat below a steep slope held by an old timber retaining wall that had rotted through and was falling apart. We replaced it with a segmental concrete block retaining wall that holds the hillside, gives the yard clean, straight lines and serves as a solid base for a new cedar fence.
The work included removal of the decayed timbers and old concrete, excavation along the slope, a compacted gravel leveling base, the first course set to string line and level, stacked granite-tone concrete blocks, drainage gravel behind the wall, a charcoal cap glued in place, steel post brackets anchored into the cap, and a cedar privacy fence with top cap and post caps installed on top.
Completed in Seattle, WA, this project adds to Acosta Landstone's portfolio in King County. We provide retaining wall installation and fence installation across the Eastside, Snohomish, King and Pierce Counties.

How this Seattle slope went from a failing timber wall to a concrete block retaining wall with a cedar fence on top, step by step.
Old timbers behind a cracked concrete face had rotted through, leaving the slope loose and the yard edge unsafe.
We excavated, built a compacted gravel base, set each course to level and finished the wall with a charcoal cap.
